House of Byfield, a Jamaican-owned fashion brand, will be featured in several high profile and prestigious fashion magazines. These include Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar España, FASHION Magazine, DAILY SABAH, Madame Figaro, ELLE España and Elle.it. Magazines will cover the House of Byfield show with Flying Solo NYC during New York Fashion Week (NYFW) 2022.
Jamaican designer Carmicheal Byfield is behind the House of Byfield label. Byfield was born in Kingston in 1975, moved to the Netherlands in 2008 where he discovered his passion for designing menswear. He attended fashion school and started freelancing in 2011 while studying fashion. In his creations, he uses light and fluid fabrics, layering them in asymmetrical shapes. He often creates his designs by draping fabrics directly over the body. Her fashion line is produced in the Netherlands, presenting collections twice a year.
Since its inception, House of Byfield has grown into a premium ready-to-wear brand, leading the industry with its quality and unique designs that have become associated with luxury and glamour. Although he started out designing menswear, Byfield expanded his designs into the MIN eveningwear line and other product categories that transformed the brand into a luxury lifestyle company. In 2021, his creations won a Mad Mood Milano Fashion Week award in Italy.
Steven Furtado has joined the Dutch brand as prime contractor. Furtado, 30, was chosen after a roughly 11-year search by Byfield for someone to fill the role, which includes multitasking and visioning with designer Byfield. In October 2021, the fashion duo began working to move the Byfield house up the fashion brand rankings.
Byfield lives in the Netherlands and is headquartered in Rotterdam, where the collections are made. However, he notes that his inspirations still come from Jamaica, where he was born.
During NYFW’s 2022 winter season, Flying Solo, the largest independent designer platform in the United States, showcased over 400 looks from 87 designers from 20 different countries. The 2022 edition of NYFW has returned with in-person fashion shows after two years of virtual presentations due to COVID-19.
