NEW DELHI: Mercedes Benz India expects auto sales in the country to flourish after the lockdown, however, the effect may not be reflected in the luxury segment, according to a senior company official.
Martin Schwenk, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India in TOI Dialogues, said: “The trend towards personal mobility is very visible in China. In India, however, the situation is a little different. A similar trend is not relevant for the luxury segment. I expect customers in the entry segment to opt for individual transport. I don’t expect much from the luxury side.
Mercedes-Benz India has been heavily involved with new models entering the market amid the recession. India’s largest luxury automaker plans to lead in 10 new products in 2020. Earlier this week, the 2020 AMG C 63 Coupé and AMG GT-R were rolled out digitally.
Martin also took to Instagram on Friday to announce the launch of another upcoming SUV. The flagship Mercedes-Benz GLS will hit the covers on June 17. The very first electric offering – EQC – will also enter the scene later in this fiscal year.
Martin declined on the mergers and ties in the current scenario. “We have to understand that we are the biggest pushing the market on our own. We have no major activity,” he concluded.
