Maruti Suzuki Swift remains India’s favorite, Audi A4 tops luxury segment: survey

NEW DELHI: Indian car buyers have remained loyal to the Maruti Suzuki Swift, while the Audi A4 has remained the favorite in the premium segment. This was one of the trends revealed in a recent survey of 2016 data from an online automotive marketplace.
The survey also revealed a series of trends and changes in consumer behavior. Diesel cars gained ground over gasoline and CNG variants, and foreign automakers were catching up with their Indian counterparts on the confidence meter.
The survey was carried out by the online automotive marketplace Droom. Cars accounted for 38% of all sales closed by the website and sold for an average price of Rs 5.77 lakh.
The Maruti Suzuki Swift continued to top Droom’s popularity charts for the second year in a row. Not too far behind however, were the Toyota Innova and the Honda City, clearly marking India’s favorites in different price and shape segments.
Droom’s internal business data survey showed that cars made up 38% of total website sales. Diesel vehicle sales rose from 34% to 44% of Droom’s business, while gasoline sales rose from 59% to 52% and CNG from 7% to 4%.
However, the form factor preferences for preferred cars of Indian car buyers have seen sedans and SUVs hold their ground. Demand for hatchbacks rose from 43% to 40%, with the difference apparently in favor of MUVs.
“The trends seen in Droom’s analysis paint a distinct picture of the overall automotive market. While Indian brands and companies such as Maruti Suzuki and Hero have emerged as the most trusted brands, overseas automakers like Hyundai and Honda are quickly catching up, ”said Sandeep Aggarwal, CEO and Founder of Droom.
